Valerie Nuñez is a Consultant Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist Surgeon with over 25 years experience and expertise in the management of all aspects of hand and wrist disorders and injuries.
She completed her specialist surgical orthopaedic training on the South West London rotation. She went on to further specialise with three plastic surgery Hand Fellowships at The Hand Clinic in Windsor, St George's Hospital in south London and The Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead where she then became a Locum Consultant Plastic Hand Surgeon.
She was appointed in 2005 as a Consultant Hand & Wrist Surgeon at Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey where she worked until retiring recently to pursue more overseas work.
She currently combines this with private practice and other professional activities including examining for senior professional examinations both in the UK - FRCS (Tr&Orth) - and abroad - FCS (Orth). Valerie has also recently joined the panel of invited tutors an faculty of the Univeristy of Surrey Postgraduate medical School.
She has published a number of papers in peer reviewed journals and presented at international meetings in Europe and abroad.
She is a keen educator and has travelled internationally to establish sub specialty training and educational courses in El Salvador and Sudan. She also regularly lectures and provides talks to both healthcare professionals and the public via Foundation meetings and Patient Groups.
She was elected as Chairman of the Hand & Wrist Faculty of the AOUK Trauma society in 2014, and was an invited International member of the Hand Expert Group of the AOTK Trauma Foundation based in Switzerland from 2016 to 2021.
She is married to Matthew, a Consultant Urological Surgeon, and has three children. When she is not working she enjoys catching up with friends and family, walking, crafting, and is an avid reader.
